Demise Of The Carnival?

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , at 10:28 pm by The Helix

In autumn 2006, the UG2K4 batch initiated a very interesting concept called the Sunday Carnival. The Carnival was started with the aim of proving themselves as a batch (similar to the 2K1 batch and Amalgam). The concept of competitions on a Sunday was a runaway success. People had a blast on the day and the event managed to hold back people in the campus. Over the months, other batches followed suit, and the Carnival became one of the most awaited events every month. Of course, the Carnival was also touted as a run up to Felicity. Events for Felicity were successfully or unsuccessfully tested out at the Carnivals.

Today, it is unfortunate to see that the successful concept is dying a slow death. The number of carnivals and the batches coming forward to do it came down last year. This year, not a single carnival has been held, nor does one seem to be in sight. We hope the people in charge are listening- Students want the Carnival back!

It would be great to have a carnival before the next midsem.!! I think UG2/UG3 should try to make this happen. I don’t remember the last time we had a carnival :(

Okay this can be info which will want junta to kill me …
    but anyways …

The sunday carnivals, barring the first two (in 2k6) have always been events (to the best of my knowledge) that wee held as a formality and not as something filled with real enthu …. (go ahead! call for my head ;) )

So it is okay that they are reduced …. first a campus culture should be developed like it was there till the ug2k4 batch …. rather than lamely conducting carnivals just for the sake of conducting them … and trust me!! this campus has become absolutely mechanistic !!!!

MORAL: get the original IIITian culture back! Then talk of holding carnivals

First of all, I agree that The Carnival has been dying out. From a students’ point of view, it was one helluva event! From the point of view of UG3, they possibly do not see the advantages of testing out any new events before Felicity. (I suppose that was the motive with which it was started).

Coudn’t disagree more with this. We held the Carnival last year as a run up to Felicity. We wanted to test out how our different departments were working. We wanted to check out new events. You weren’t even in the campus dude!

this campus has become absolutely mechanistic !!!!

Dude.. Do you have any idea of what is happenening in the campus? Do you have any clue of the photography club, the bloggers group, the discussion forum, the mag? You call all that mechanistic? Pity..

I suppose culture is always evolves and changes with time. When certain things have changed for the good, why go back to the past? What do you mean by “getting the IIIT culture back” ??

I did not know that this was the purpose behind Sunday carnivals. I was always in assumption that it is to promote cultural activities, group activities in college which further helps a lot in many other ways. I see some issues if what is mentioned is the purpose.

I have just one thing to say [b]“You must be the change that you wish to see in the world”

It’s time those interested in having carnivals, started it. You can definitely requested management for support, if you need.

But, get up and get going, NOW!

I think i do … irony is that …. more than some students in the campus itself (no not you , but the less spirited ones)

“Do you have any clue of the photography club, the bloggers group, the discussion forum, the mag? You call all that mechanistic? Pity..”

Esoteric groupism to justify waning unity. There are always only a few enthusiastic enough to participate. They always form the crowd in the events. We dont want sparks …. we want a fire dont we ? :)
Get the whole campus, I will agree then …

“When certain things have changed for the good, why go back to the past?”

Heard of ug2k2 batch dubbed ‘the groovy ones’ ..till they were there … IIITian culture really existed..sad to say it took a down turn after that :|

Do you celebrate ganapathi puja, the immersion of a campus idol, etc., like they did before.Do u know that existed ?Did u know even faculty used to enthusiastically participate in these events before ???

Do u have even localites participating in diwali celerbations preferring to stay on campus over going home during the holiday ?

Pal!You might lambast me in a fit of patriotism :)
but I am not the one to convince … u are speaking in the other direction
